About the Hopwood School & Camp
Ann and Richard Hopwood founded the Hopwood Nursery School in 1968 and the Hopwood Summer Day Camp in 1981 (now the Hopwood School & Camp). Today, the O'Rourke family continues the Hopwood legacy and traditions. Casey and Annie O’Rourke, along with their son and daughter, Casey and Grey, are incredibly humbled by the rich history of Hopwood School & Camp and look forward to providing the children in our community with fun-filled experiences and friendships that will last a lifetime.
Hopwood has a wonderful staff of dedicated, state certified teaching professionals who have been with the school and camp for many years. We encourage you to contact us to discuss your child's bright future! Most of our programs fill early so please do not wait! Our Director, Mary Prichard, along with our talented and dedicated teachers and counselors, inspire creativity and curiosity in the children of our community every day!
Hopwood's school curriculum is based on the High Scope Curriculum. The High Scope approach emphasizes the "active learner" and incorporates five basic elements of sound developmental practices for children and effective program management strategies for adults.
Our campus encompasses 8.5 acres in a country setting and offers a truly unique, year-round, indoor and outdoor learning experience. Open spaces, trees and wildlife offer a rich environment for children to learn, play, explore and interact. The school's enclosed play yard alone is over 2/3 of an acre and includes an all-weather, 2000 sq. ft. covered play pavilion. When not in class, Hopwood children sled in the winter, chase butterflies in the spring, swim in the summer and jump in fall leaf piles! Hopwood's resident animals (our alpacas "Harry" and "Judd") often provide learning opportunities and comical distractions for the children. Hopwood connects outdoor and indoor learning experiences.
Hopwood is conveniently located in Kulpsville, Pennsylvania (Towamencin Township), central to Lansdale, Harleysville, Hatfield, North Wales, Worcester and Skippack. The school is less than one mile from the Lansdale exit (31) of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's N.E. Extension (I-476). The Hopwood School & Camp has been consistently voted the "best" or "one of the best" by local families.
In accordance with applicable Federal and State civil rights laws and regulatory requirements, services are provided at this facility without regard to race, origin, color, religious creed, handicap, ancestry, national origin, English Language Proficiency (LEP), age, or gender.
